Blue Economy Minister Speaks on Use of Resources for Economic Growth

“Our message to our Belizean people is that it is important that we understand that despite the COVID-19 that we are going through right now it is even becoming more important for small developing states like us to look at the Blue Economy for economic growth and stability.  It is high time that we as Belizeans begin to look at what the Blue Economy is and yes as part of the government we have to strengthen and innovate in the traditional sectors like the fisheries and tourism but we must now actually develop plans and while we strategize for growth we have to put in place safeguards for the requisite social protection to allow for equity in terms of access to participate in the Blue Economy. We need to come up with a strategic plan, so by the end of 2021 we must be able to have access to the IFIs and all these different organizations with funds available via the Blue Economy.”
