Livestock Producers Get Some Much Needed Technical Aid from Taiwan
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise has received training materials from the Republic of China, Taiwan. The fifty-eight packages are in the form of flash drives loaded with information on general sheep management practices, commercial sheep and goat production, nutrition, breeding, and herd health. They will be distributed to livestock extension officers and sheep and goat farmers and are part of drought and feeding relief efforts. According to the ministry, hundreds of Belizean sheep farmers need this technical assistance because many producers are experiencing high levels of mortality, low reproductive rates, and poor growth performance in their livestock. They say the sheep project initiative indicates there is greater potential for the local sheep and goat industry to earn foreign exchange, generate employment, and improve food security. Servulo Baeza, C.E.O. in the ministry, and William Can, extension officer accepted the materials from Taiwan.
