Cayo band releases “Culture 2000” CD

The Cayo based World Culture Band launched its debut album “Culture 2000” at the House of Culture this evening. The band, which is relatively new, coming together eight months ago, is managed by Sammy Harris. He spoke with News Five this evening about “Culture 2000”.

Sammy Harris, Manager, World Culture Band

“The whole concept of this particular band, is that we are trying to change what typically is Belizean band. We are trying to make it instead of being a dance band to a show band/dance band, rather than a dance band/show band. Because for me, for one, I for one cannot take the licking from nine until. So we do it as a show, from nine until twelve. We do one or two shows, in between and try to make it live entertainment.”

Q: “What kind of shows?”

Sammy Harris

“When we are talking about shows, we try to keep the music rather than sounding synthetic, rather than sound like it’s sequenced, or anything we keep it live. We keep it as much raw, as raw as possible. That directly if you see five guys up there, it’s five guys playing. There is not a drum machine, there is nothing to enhance. What you hear is exactly what, you know, what is in the CD. You are not going to hear a whole lot of stuff added to it.”

Q: “What kind of music do you all play?”

Sammy Harris

“On this particular CD what we try to do, because it says World Culture, we try to encompass indigenous music. So we got reggae, we got a mixture of soca and some that it is close to the African, you know, French Caribbean rhythm to it.”
