Cabinet Continues to Review of Union Proposals

As we reported on Tuesday, Cabinet met at the House of Culture in Belize City in a marathon session to discuss a range of issues, most pertinently the joint Union’s response to government’s proposals. Although members of the media waited all afternoon for comment, at the end of the meeting, the ministers zipped past them in their vehicles.   Prime Minister John Briceño simply said that he would refrain commenting until the negotiations were successfully completed.  In other cabinet news, an update from the Ministry of Health and Wellness was presented which indicates during the first phase of vaccinations has seen as many as ten thousand Belizeans inoculated at a rate of six hundred persons per day.  A report on the worsening fiscal position of the D.F.C. was also presented and a plan to introduce corrective measures was also put forward.  Lastly, in seeking to realize twenty-five million dollars in savings, cabinet endorsed the development of a centralized procurement unit within the Ministry of Finance.
