News Five has confirmed with the family of Sir Colville Young that he will be retiring as the Governor General of Belize. According to the family, they were consulted and agreed, along with his doctor, that it is time. A message from the family to News Five says, “We have been planning for this eventuality for over a year.” Earlier this week, Prime Minister John Briceño reportedly paid a visit to the governor general to request that he demits the office of Governor General. We are told that the announcement of his retirement will be made at the next sitting of the House of Representatives, during the budget presentation. But who will be his replacement? Reliable sources tell News Five that the name of a female designate will be submitted to the queen for approval. Sir Colville Young is eighty-eight-years old and has served as Belize’s Governor General for twenty-seven years, since he was appointed on November seventeenth 1993.
