A new Fisheries Administrator to be named

As you may know by now, the Ministry of Blue Economy is a new ministry for Belize and that naturally comes with some shaping and shifting. One of those big changes will include a new fisheries administrator at the helm of the Belize Fisheries Department. The current Fisheries Administrator  is Beverly Wade but we were told that she will be stepping away from the department and take up another role in the Ministry which means there will be a new hire at the Fisheries Department. Earlier this week when we spoke with Minister Andre Perez we asked him about this change – and who will take up the position. Here’s how he responded:

Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy

“Part of the restructuring of the Blue Economy is that we must engage and use the best resources in terms of human resources, right. I am happy to report to you that within the fisheries department many people are highly competent and we from the Ministry are focusing on where we can put the people in the best possible – because now it is the Blue Economy – and we cannot be focusing now on just the fisheries department. So, of course we have some changes occurring there and it is for the good and benefit and recognizing that there is a vast potential for the human resources in the fisheries department and that is all we are doing – engaging right now.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, when can we expect a new fisheries admin, minister?”

Andre Perez

Andre Perez

“Very soon; very soon. We will make it official and everything but it is going to be good news. A win-win for all. I can tell you that much.”

Andrea Polanco

“No nepotistic appoint there – is it someone internal?”

Andre Perez

“Absolutely no kind of nepotistic thing right now. I can say clearly to you that it is by merit – by people who have – you know by recognizing the potential – they have the experience and capacity and the way they conduct themselves very professional and we from the Ministry of Blue Economy recognize that so please mek we nuh bring this word nepotism – it doesn’t exist here, especially in our ministry here.”

Andrea Polanco

“I have to ask.”

Andre Perez

“Good question – though – good question – laughs.”
