P.S.U. holds motorcades

Earlier this week we saw the branches of the Belize Nation Teachers Union hold simultaneous motorcades across the country to make a statement against the government’s proposed salary cut and increment freeze. Today, the Public Service Union staged its own motorcade in different parts of the country. The collective effort is to express their dissatisfaction with the cost saving measures that G.O.B. is championing – which, if implemented, will see some sixty million dollars slashed off the wage bill in the coming fiscal year – that’s a ten percent cut for public officers. But as you heard earlier this week, in the joint union meetings, P.S.U. and the other unions have their own recommendations how G.O.B. can make fiscal changes. And in an attempt to make a statement again and remind G.O.B. that they are not in support of the current measures being proposed, the members of the P.S.U. got in their vehicles and carried out a motorcade which started on Coney Drive in Belize City and continued along the Central American Boulevard and ended at the Yabra field where the vehicles dispersed. The members of the P.S.U. made bold statements against the proposed measures with loud speakers and bold printed statements plastered across the vehicles with messages such as “No Salary Cut” and “Leggo Off a Unu Allowances.”
