What’s Up with the Investigation into Former Minister Rene Montero?
A month ago, the Belize Police Department began an investigation into former U.D.P. Minister Rene Montero and his C.E.O. Errol Gentle after the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing filed an official report, alleging that Montero used the ministry’s resources for private gain. Well, the police have completed that investigation and have handed over the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Today, ACP Joseph Myvett gave the press an update on the status of that investigation:
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“A team of officers have been assigned to do that investigation. A number of evidence were gathered in terms of the investigation and those were compiled and sent to the office of the director of public prosecutions which she reviewed and gave us further directives. So, the officers are now complying with those further directives that were given to them and then those will then also be compiled and forwarded back to her for further direction.”
Andrea Polanco
“Sir, Mr. Montero, his attorney, anyone connected to him, his associates – were they questioned?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“A number of persons whom are associated with him were a part of the interviewing process, yes.”
