Armed Robbery in San Ignacio
There was a brazen robbery in San Ignacio on Sunday morning. Police say that five armed masked men held up a woman in her yard and proceeded to rob her. At this time, cops believe that some of those involved may be from across the western border. Here’s more from ACP Joseph Myvett.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“San Ignacio Police were called to the home of Lilian Avilez in the Shawville area of San Ignacio Town where she reported to the police that sometime around eight-thirty a.m when she was at home she had exited her home to retrieve something from her vehicle which was parked in the yard when she was approached by five armed male persons – one of dark complexion and four Hispanics – all wearing long sleeve shirts and masks. They entered her home and ransacked it. She was also tied up during the process and a number of items were stolen. Thereafter those persons took her gray Amarack vehicle and made good their escape in that vehicle. Surveillance footage has shown that the vehicle left through the Santa Rosa Road towards the Guatemalan border sometime around nine yesterday morning. At this time we are in communication with our Guatemalan counterparts in relation to this investigation.”
