No Arrests for Trapp’s Murder in PG
Last week Wednesday, Dennis Trapp was shot and killed just after four a.m. in Punta Gorda. At the time, police said that Trapp’s murder may have been connected to gang warfare in that southern municipality. Today, ACP Joseph Myvett says that while they haven’t arrested and charged anyone for this killing, they are actively pursuing persons of interest.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“The officers are still investigating and we are following several leads and we are looking for a known suspect who is known to the police in relation to this investigation.”
Andrea Polanco
“Sir, any surveillance footage from the area for cops to use? We know that the family made a claim that perhaps the cameras were turned away from the direction they would normally point?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Not that we know of but officers are on the ground conducting their investigation and the entire area is being canvassed to see whether or not there are any other surveillance cameras that can assist the police in the investigation.”
Andrea Polanco
“Sir, did Mr. Trapp make any report to the police that he was threatened before or any attempt on his life recently?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Yes he did and the police have a statement to that effect in which he requested no court action. I think it was a little over a month ago whilst at the dump site he was fired upon by unknown persons whilst at his work site in the dumpsite area.”
Andrea Polanco
“Do police officers believe that these same persons may have come back after him – that it is the same issue?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Could have been so that is part of the investigation.”
Andrea Polanco
“Sir, the commissioner mentioned last week that you are looking also at the issue of gangs feuding there in Punta Gorda. Where does Mr. Trapp fit into this – was he a member of a gang?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“I am not going to go as far to say that other than to say that he is known to the police.”
