Virtual Release of MAXIMO: the Last Alcalde of San Jose Yalbac

Belizean history came to life over the weekend in San Jose Nuevo Palmar in Orange Walk. It became the scene of a dedication ceremony in honour of Maximo Perez, the last Alcalde of San Jose, Yalbac. The celebration coincided with the release of a book written by Carmen Carrillo and Delmer Tzib and illustrated by Carlos Quiroz and edited by Melissa Espat. The new publication describes Perez as a great leader and a fearless fighter as he organized the move of his people from Yalbac, modern-day Cayo District, to San Jose Nuevo Palmar after a land struggle with Belize Estate Company. Put together by the Image Factory Art Foundation, here’s a snippet of the virtual launch that took place in Orange Walk.
