“Blue” is Murdered Near Cumberbatch Field

Belize City police are investigating the murder of a young man who was shot and killed on Saturday evening. It is the latest homicide in the Old Capital and investigators are following up on various leads, despite not being able to yet ascertain a motive. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Kevaughn Morris was dispatched in a hail of bullets on Saturday night at the Cumberbatch Field near Caesar Ridge Road. “Blue” had just ended a phone conversation with his girlfriend when she received word of the deadly shooting.

Ih seh, “Yoh betta cohn directly.” And I tell ahn right now ah di cohn babe because I haffi cohn before shop shet fi buy. Ih seh okay then and that da mi di last I yer from he.”
Moments later, gunshots rang out in the vicinity of the field.

“Police responded to shots fired on Caesar Ridge Road and upon their arrival they went to Cumberbatch Field where they saw the motionless body of a male person who had received gunshot injuries. The male person was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he died thereafter.”
According to Morris’ live-in girlfriend, his mother called her upon being informed of what had taken place. News of the tragedy took her by surprise, knowing that she had just gotten off the phone with him.

“Ih ma seh, “You yer dehn shot up Blue?” And I tell ahn, “Neva, Blue just done call me.” Ih seh yes, so I run out from weh paat I mih deh and I di run and my friend di run behind me and she di she “Wait, wait, wait” and she seh, “Call Blue phone gial.” And I call ih phone and di police ansa, and di police seh ih get shot eena ih head and I bawl out.”
According to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, an unidentified individual emerged on the scene where Morris and another man were standing. Multiple shots were fired.

“He was in that area along with another person when a male person came to the area and fired shots towards his direction causing his fatal injuries.”

“Sir, there were two of them there. Who was the intended target?”

“The information that we have is that the deceased was the intended target.”
His girlfriend, on the other hand, denies that Morris had problems with anyone in the neighborhood. In fact, she told News Five this morning that he was quiet and often kept to himself.

Morris leaves behind a pair of kids. Meanwhile, police are investigating the incident but are stumped on a motive for his murder. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
