B.E.L. demands apology from Channel 7

Yesterday, Belize Electricity Limited and Telemedia issued a joint release regarding fiber optic cables that Telemedia is installing on B.E.L.’s poles between Belize City and Belmopan. The basis for the release, according to B.E.L., was to point out that short power outages during the installation process could be expected. But an editorialized item on Channel Seven’s newscast has prompted a response from B.E.L. who referred to the story as mischievous and the utility company is demanding an apology for (quote) “the attack on the credibility of B.E.L. and Telemedia.” B.E.L. further states that the report also failed to “inform viewers of other critical information, including the fact that all other cable companies in Belize, including Channel Seven’s Tropical Vision in Belmopan, currently run their cable wires on B.E.L.’s distribution system countrywide”.
