Suicide in Caye Caulker

Police are investigating the apparent suicide of a tourist at Caye Caulker. Tom Young Jr., owner of Tom’s Hotel on Caye Caulker, told News Five that around ten forty-five this morning, he discovered the body of Gordon James Higton, from the United Kingdom, hanging by what appeared to be a bag strap in the room’s closet. Young says a hotel maid went to clean Higton’s room Sunday morning but received no answer to her knock. She thought the occupant wanted to sleep late so she left. But when no one answered again this morning, the maid became concerned and contacted the owner. When Young pried open one of the room’s windows, he saw Higton’s body. According to the hotel register, Gordon checked into the hotel, alone, on Friday, January seventh. Police are treating the case as a suicide.
