Sunday morning shooting leaves pedestrian injured
A pedestrian has reported to police that after almost being knocked down by a car, the driver then got out and tried to shoot him. Twenty-three year old Epitacio Navarro told police that around four thirty a.m. on Sunday he and three of his friends were walking on Newtown Barracks heading towards Cinderella Plaza to get a taxi but as they turned onto Wilson Street, a small red car almost ran them over. Navarro says after he and the driver had “harsh words,” the driver got out of the vehicle brandishing a gun. Navarro says he kicked the door to avoid being hit but was shot in his left hand. Navarro and his friends ran down the street and tried to hide in an open yard behind some houses on Kelly Street but the red car followed and found them. Additional shots were fired and Navarro was shot once more, this time in his shoulder. The victim says there were four Hispanic men in the car. He says they acted as if the incident was some kind of game and believes that after a night of drinking, the men drove around the city looking for trouble. No one else was injured. Police have recovered eleven nine millimeter expended shells in the area but have yet to make any arrests.
