New police station for Spanish Lookout
The Mennonite Community of Spanish Lookout has always been known as easy pickings for criminals due to the Mennonites’ tradition of non-violence. And while in recent years a good number of Spanish Lookout residents have quietly purchased a shotgun or two, a number of high profile violent crimes have continued to plague the prosperous settlement. Today government took a step toward reversing that situation by allocating thirty thousand dollars toward the construction of the village’s first police station. The money was handed over by Minister of National Security Jorge Espat to community elders Denver Plett, Henry Dueck and Frank Reimer. The police station, located on the main road, will be built by the Mennonites on land they have donated for the project.
