San Isidro Construction Worker Dies in Accident in the South
On Friday evening, police responded to an accident on the Placencia Road. Gerardo Arevalo was behind the wheel of a GMC truck and as he attempted to overtake a bus that was letting off passengers on the side of the road, Jose Pop reportedly ran in front of his truck. The impact threw the construction worker from San Isidro Village some two hundred feet away to his death. Despite efforts to rush Pop to the Southern Regional Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“They observed the apparent lifeless body of Jose Pop with severe head and body injuries. Also seen was a grey in colour pickup which at the time was driven by Gerardo Arevalo. He reported to police that he was westbound on the Placencia road when he saw a passenger bus on the same lane that he was. And in the process of overtaking the bus that is when Pop ran across the road in front of his vehicle and he was unavoidably hit by the vehicle driven by Pop. Mister Arevalo was detained where samples were taken from him and he was later released pending the outcome of this investigation.”
