Belize Wants to Talk Climate Finance & Technology at COP26 in Glasgow
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the twenty-sixth of its kind that is scheduled to be held in the city of Glasgow from November first to the twelfth 2021 under the presidency of the United Kingdom. Negotiating at the conference on behalf of the region, including Belize, is the Small Islands Development States.
Dr. Lennox Gladden, Chief Climate Change Officer, N.C.C.O.
“We negotiate unto them, but nationally we still have our positions. In this case, especially if we are looking at the Conference of the Parties, this one coming up in November in particular, our key focus nationally is climate finance. But if we are looking at climate finance, we also have to factor a certain level of accountability and transparency. So as an authority, we are taking the necessary steps in development of a national monitoring, reporting and verification system because this is a requirement when we are looking at overall accountability. So one of the key thematic areas that we will be looking at going into this year COP and climate finance and also technology. We can’t forget the science.”
