Grigamandala and Bandits draw in B.F.L. action
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re locked into another serving of Sports Monday. Week fourteen of the Belize Football League Regent Cup found Grigamandala mounting an invasion against Builder’s Hardware Bandits at Belmopan in a bid for a share of the lead in the standings.
We open with a press by the host team but the push through is chased down by speedy defense. Dangriga responds from the left side but the soggy pitch makes control of the ball more difficult. The Bandits launch an aerial attack but the header at the end of the play is weak.
This sequence of plays will give you an idea of the pitch’s condition for today’s ball game: downfield the Bandits attack with a shot off the left wing but Stanley Reneau makes the stop and at the half the scoreboard has not budged.
In second half Dangriga goes to the attack and should have scored but the conversion is not to be. Off a press Grigamandala almost gets on to the scoreboard from this autogoal but the Belmopan keeper comes up with a big save. Meanwhile folks if you’re going to launch anything inside the eighteen, a high riser is not the kick to offer.
Right here Dangriga begs for the penalty but Referee Jones wouldn’t have it. It’s yet another Dangriga attack but even this close to the net the conversion remains an illusion. Again it’s Grigamandala in front of the Bandits’ goal and again they can’t break through.
So Dangriga goes to the long distance launch in search for goal but the ball inches outside the box. Okay here comes the breakthrough for Grigamandala, actually it’s only looks that way as Saintbury misses. They say if you try and try again you’ll succeed but the southern team might be exempted today. And when the long whistle blows it brings the curtain down on a scoreless stalemate.
Kulture Yabra of Belize City, which beat Real Verdes three-zip Thursday night, now moves to a league leading twenty-five points. Sagitun of Independence kept pace with a three-zip locking of the Dolphins out at San Pedro. Juventus and La Victoria of Corozal battled to a three-three tie at the People’s Stadium. And Ambergris Turquoise beat Acros Bombers two-one at the M.C.C. Grounds on Sunday.
Coming up in cycling it’s the New Year’s KREM Classic and yeah we are gonna keep you posted. That’s it for today though. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
