Hattieville prisoner killed by fellow inmate
A fight during recreation time at Hattieville Prison has left one inmate dead. According to Wayne Moody, Director of Programs for the Department of Corrections, just after midday today, prisoners watched as a fellow inmate was stabbed and then chased around the prison yard until officers and other prisoners intervened. The prisoner was immediately rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but he died shortly after. Prison officials are not yet releasing the name of the inmate since his family has not yet been notified. Tonight police continue their investigations at the prison. According to Moody, prisoners Glenford Gillet and Mark Middleton have been detained. No motive has been established but earlier this morning, the murdered inmate had been involved in a misunderstanding with another prisoner, Herman Lanza. Lanza was taken to the K.H.M.H. with a badly swollen jaw. Less than two weeks ago, Belize Defense Force and police officials had conducted a thorough search of the prison for weapons.
