P.S.U. Vice Prez: Consultations between Joint Unions and G.O.B. Have Ended
P.S.U. Vice President Dean Flowers confirms that all consultations between the government and the joint unions have ended.
Dean Flowers, Vice President, P.S.U.
“In our view the consultations that the government was having with the Joint Unions have come to an end. As you are aware on the twelfth of April the Public Service Union did write to the Labor Commissioner and the Labor Minister informing them that we were at an impasse and that there was an existence of a trade dispute. In accordance with the law, the Minister is required to put together a dispute tribunal. He disregarded his responsibility under the law once again, showing wanton disrespect and disregard for the law to put together the tribunal. He has informed us that he will not do so. In keeping with the law, our twenty-one days’ notice to strike action as a result of the trade dispute continues to run. That will expire on the third of May. At that point in time, we will proceed to strike action. We have fulfilled our obligation in accordance with the law. We will not be accused, as the Minister of Labor, of disregarding the law. We will not be accused of disregarding any regulation. We are acting in compliance with the public service regulation, as well as the settlement of dispute act.”
