Senator Smith Calls G.O.B. Back to Discussions
Union Senator Elena Smith also called on the Government of Belize to come back to the table for further discussions. Smith says that while the ten percent cut and increment freezes appear to be a foregone conclusion, further discussion between the unions and government can focus on issues of good governance.
Elena Smith, Senator for Unions
“If it is that we are saying that we must come back to the table and we must discuss these matters, these good governance issues, and I don’t know if there is going to be any time for us to get back to the table and discuss anything regarding a salary cut because it is here. Every Ministry you page through you see that reduction. I am hoping Madam President that we will be able to get to a place where we can sit down and seriously discuss these matters, have agreements for the good of all of us. Because it cannot be that those who provide, those who keep the government running, those who educate our children are the ones that must take the biggest sacrifice in all of this. I repeat, it cannot be that those on the lower end of the scale who work to make our government run, take the brunt of any sacrifice.”
