Martinez Says Unions Would Continue with Commission of Inquiry

When asked if the N.T.U.C.B. would continue to participate in the Commission of Inquiry proceedings which ended abruptly days ago when the live feed was cut in the middle of his speech, Martinez called on the Director of Press Office to resign.  As for the N.T.U.C.B.’s continued participation, Martinez says the union congress has a responsibility, but the Prime Minister must first meet certain conditions.

“If I was his employer, I would have asked him to resign from his post. You do not act irresponsibly like that. And then you turn around and make it appear as if the Unions are upset with the hard-working public officers in that department, because we know that they are professionals.   Absolutely we have a responsibility to be the vanguards. We have requested that the Prime Minister meets certain requirements. We are willing to come back to the table and expose some of the corruption that has occurred, the pilfering, and request some of these assets return to Belize. That is why we are asking for good governance, assets recovery. With assets recovery law we will be able to get back the assets of the people.”
