Janelle Chanona

“Jackie Woods went around earlier today to find out what was happening in those stores and spoke to some of the merchants here on Albert Street.”

Jacqueline Roe, Purchasing Manager, Hofius

“Well it has not been bad, it has definitely been better than last year and we feel that possibly last year one of the reasons for lower sales was because of the hurricane and everybody having to prepare for the hurricane so maybe that was part of it but there has been more momentum this year definitely.”

Icemie Herrera, Store Supervisor, Romac’s

“It is very good for this year, much better than last year.”

Q: “What do you find people buying the most?”

Icemie Herrera

“Ham, turkey, cranberry sauce, salad stuff, apples, grapes, cosmetics.”

Sherman Sawers, Asst. Manager, Brodie’s Supermarket

“We didn’t do too bad this year. Competition is stiff as we have a lot of stores opening up and compared to last year we are doing fairly well.”

Q: “Did you all do anything special this year to attract the customers?”

Sherman Sawers

“Yes we did; we had our grand Christmas raffle which started from September. It’s three great grand prizes with ten consolation prizes. We have a Pringles raffle again with three great raffles. We have a Klim raffle. We have our coupon program as you know, for every twenty dollar purchase you get a dollar back in coupon.”

Tomas Gongora, Sales Clerk, Mikado

“Business down here at Mikado has been fairly good. We have a lot of competition but in here is busy as usual.”

Q: “So what did you all do to address the competition?”

Tomas Gongora

“To address the competition we are having a two for one, that is if you buy one, you get one free sale because we believe that no child should go without a toy around Christmas time. Christmas is for the kids.”
