CitCo holds Christmas concert
If you’re ready for some Christmas bramming or just like to listen to the songs of the season under the stars, then you might want to stop by the annual City Council Christmas concert outside the Commercial Center tonight. News Five spoke with Councilor Yasmin Shoman, an organizer for the event, who says the concert is a way of saying “thanks” to the people of Belize City.
Yasmin Shoman, City Councilor
“The Belize City Council is not just about collecting taxes and making sure the streets are kept clean. This new council, one of our manifesto promises was to promote more community participation, have better P.R. with our public and especially to promote culture and sports. We’ve been doing various things since the nine months since we’ve been elected and we want to bring our residents together to show them that we’re all one and we have to work together to make this thing work. And this is our tribute to them to show our appreciation for their support over, throughout this nine months and we look forward to giving them a treat tonight.”
Tonight’s concert will feature the Heavenlies Gospel Band, Essence, the Wesley Methodist Pray Singers, Derrick Gordon, the East Indian Dance Group, St. Martin De Porres Choir and the city councilors themselves have also prepared a special number. In addition, five people from the community will be honored for their contributions to the life and times of the city. The concert gets underway at seven p.m. tonight in front of the Commercial Center. Refreshments will be served.
