P.S.U. is Backed by B.N.T.U. and A.P.S.S.M.
While the Public Service Union will be leading the charge this time, Henry says that the P.S.U. enjoys the full support of the Belize National Teachers Union and the Association of Public Service Senior Managers.
On the Phone: Gerald Henry, President, Public Service Union
“Certainly, I can safely say that they are in full solidarity with us, at least the majority of their membership and hence the reason why they are supporting us. If they did not have a majority support they would not have been able to join in solidarity or we wouldn’t be a joint union team. But since the membership of their respective unions also gave them a mandate which is to support the efforts that we are making then it means that they are also very much on board. We are hoping that the actions that the unions will be taking will bring the government back to the table but this time in an effort to negotiate rather than consult just simply to satisfy the law that they need to consult with us before taking such actions. So we are hoping that they would get back to the table but this time in good faith negotiations, as opposed to simply consultations.”
