US suspends visa services until mid January
You may be getting tired of hearing about the Y2K bug but the predictions over what might happen aren’t over. Today the US Embassy issued an advisory to Belizeans that non-immigrant visas will be not be issued on the third and fourth of January, 2000. Translation, if you don’t have a visa and you plan to be traveling to the United States in early January, go to the consul before December thirty-first. If you are an applicant with an immigrant visa pending, please note that those services will not be functioning for the first two weeks of January. The embassy says this has become necessary to form and execute contingency plans for US citizens worldwide who may find themselves in emergency circumstances during the beginning of January. If there are any Belizean emergencies that would require consular services, a duty officer will be available.
