Lions Club helps poor families
Christmas cheer continues to spread throughout Belize City. On Sunday members of the Lions Club distributed one hundred food hampers to families in the Port Loyola area. The gifts, valued at around thirty-five dollars each, were made possible through contributions from the wider community and a number of local businesses including Belize Sugar Industry, Belize Flour Mills, Victor L. Bryant, Brodies, Santiago Castillo, Atlantic Bank and Scotia Bank. The public service project is an annual event which each year targets a different part of the city. Last year the Lions visited the Lake Independence area. In related news, beginning tonight and running through Tuesday the Police Youth Cadet Corps will also be delivering gift items as well as entertainment throughout the city. Thirty of the organization’s members worked to assemble packages made from items donated by the Belize Marketing Board, Santiago Castillo, Grace Kennedy, the Food Depot, Thrift Center, Wellworth and Southside Mini Mart.
