A Virtual Dance Recital
Usually this would be the time of year when Belizean artists are on stage showing off their talents. But this year, as with so many things, even dance recitals have to be virtual. This Saturday, Modern Dance Movement is holding their show on YouTube with featured choreographer, Sistie Fairweather Harmes. “Sistie,” as she is fondly known, has been a part of Belize’s performing arts scene since the 1950s. As the Artistic Director of Vista Dance Studio for fifteen years, “Sistie” left an impact on many young dancers, including M.D.M.’s Creative Director Jaylan Craig. M.D.M. will be including two of Sistie’s dances – “Caribbean Blue” from 2003 and “Praise to the Lord” from 2004, choreographed in memory of Ethel Louise Fairweather. Be sure to catch Sistie’s choreography at the virtual recital on Saturday, May eighth, 2021.
