Owl is Shot Near His Home on Santa Barbara Street

Justin Richards

There was another shooting incident in Belize City on Tuesday night that landed Justin Richards in the hospital with gunshot wounds to his body.  The Santa Barbara Street resident was just a stone’s throw away from his home and was returning from a nearby shop when a hooded gunman pounced on him.  Richards, known to many as Owl, was shot twice, including a gunshot wound to his side.  His attacker then escaped towards Ebony Street in the direction of Central American Boulevard.  News Five spoke with Richards’ sister this morning.  While she declined an interview, she informed us that her brother remained in an unconscious state at the K.H.M.H. and was scheduled to undergo a surgery.  The incident took place around eight-thirty p.m. and officers responding to the scene recovered several expended shells from the area.  As we reported on Tuesday evening, there has been a deadly flare up of gun violence in Belize City, beginning with the shooting death of Gerald Tillett Junior last Thursday on Bagdad Street.  It remains unclear what the heightened tension among feuding gangs is being attributed to.
