Excelsior gets new board
The Board of Excelsior High School has been “reconstituted” following an effectiveness report on the school which found the institution lacking in certain areas. The Pro-tem Chairman is Chief Education Officer Cecil Reneau. He is also the Ministry of Education’s representative on the board. Former Chairman John Neal and the former secretary Lawrence Vernon are also on the board as trustees. There are three community representatives: Aurora Waight, Joseph Lawrence and Carlton Kelly. Principal Mario Rodriguez and staff member Martin Martinez also have seats. The Ministry of Education says the new board will review the effectiveness evaluation, the terms and conditions of staff and look to elect a PTA and student representative to the board. Excelsior has over three hundred fifty students and a staff of thirty-seven. It is not affiliated with any religious denomination, government or private entity and is financed through tuition and fund raising efforts. Government pays seventy percent of the teachers’ salaries as it does for other private schools.
