A Day on the Reef: a Lifetime of Appreciation
Students from Sittee River Methodist enjoyed an educational trip to Tobacco Caye in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve this week. It was part of ReefKeeper Belize’s series of field trips as part of a Community Stewardship and Recycling Program. The primary school students, accompanied by teachers, chaperones, and Principal Julie Faux, learned about the three marine habitats: coral reef, mangroves, and sea grass. They also went snorkeling and learned about the history of the caye. For many of the students it was their first time on Tobacco Caye. Since 2007, ReefKeeper Belize has engaged over two thousand students, teachers, and parents, in their environmental education program.
