Guatemalan crafts at Christmas bazaar

You don’t have to go all the way to Antigua, Guatemala City or even Melchor to get your handmade Christmas tablecloths, clay nativity sets or candleholders. These handicrafts and many more are available Saturday at the Guatemalan Embassy in Belize City. The Guatemalan Ladies Association is holding a Christmas bazaar to raise funds for their favorite charities here in Belize.
Yolanda Espat, President, Guatemalan Ladies Group
“As you can see we have a nice variety of handicrafts from Guatemala, a lot of clay, textiles and candies, candles, paintings. I think there is a little bit of all the handicrafts from Guatemala.
We are going to bring a marimba and we’re going to have typical food from Guatemala. We’re going to have churrasco, which is like a barbecue, but with chimole, guacamole. And we’re going to have longanizas, carne ajobada, chiles rellenos, tostaditas – just the typical food from Guatemala.”
The Guatemalan Ladies Association is supportive of NOPCA, the Belize Red Cross, and other organizations. The bazaar is on from ten thirty to five p.m. at the Embassy Grounds at number eight A Street in King’s Park, off Baymen Avenue.
