REDD+ and the National Climate Change Office Sending Message to Communities
So what role can you play in the conservation and sustainable management of forests? REDD Plus and the National Climate Change Office, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, has been on the ground communicating with those most affected by climate change in an effort to see what can be done at all levels to help with mitigating and adaptive efforts.
Dr. Lennox Gladden, Chief Climate Change Officer, Ministry of Sustainable Development Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management
“They are engaging with us. For example we had a partnership with the Ministry of Education because they were looking at how they were going to incorporate climate change into their curriculum. But they put it at another level through an environmental lens. But even when we dialogue with them, we have to take a tiered approach because for me, it is important for us to now train the next generation to be cognizant of some of these issues that might arise not only in climate change, but disaster risk management and of course a change in the sustainable development goals. So the message is getting out there, but there are certain gaps. It is now to break it down at the community level and so we use some of our current initiatives, some of our current projects to fill that gap to reach out because this should have been the year of awareness.”
