ComPol Says He Was Just Sharing Curfew S.I. as a Courtesy
For the next thirty days, movement will remain restricted by curfew hours. Over the weekend a new S.I. came into effect, extending the curfew for an additional thirty days. There was some confusion when the last S.I. expired on May fifteenth with many Belizeans questioning whether the curfew was still in effect. To clarify, ComPol Williams took to his personal Facebook page to announce the new S.I. He received criticism from those demanding an official copy so he later posted a screenshot of the S.I. Today, he reminded the press that he is under no obligation to inform people of the latest regulations.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I was the one who posted the Gazette and may I say that I am under no obligation to post the Gazette. Some people seemingly believe that I have a duty to post that. I do not even have duty to inform people of what the law is. My duty is to enforce the laws. But as a matter of courtesy, being fair to people, I saw the need to inform them of the extension of the curfew. And since I saw that a number of persons were challenging the correction of my post, I eventually posted the S.I. And you questioned whether or not it was gazetted. Right there on the S.I that was posted says gazetted, fifteenth day of May, 2021”
