Additional Legislation to Accompany Whistleblower Act
On Wednesday night, we spoke with attorney-at-law Darrell Bradley about the Whistleblower Act that the Briceño administration is seeking to legislate. Bradley spoke of the need for strengthening of investigative bodies and other pieces of legislation to recover misappropriated assets or monies. Today, Public Service Minister Henry Charles Usher told News Five that as part of its good governance agenda, G.O.B. has been working on additional legislation, some of which have already been taken to the House.

“We’ve already drafted protected disclosure legislation, we’ve already drafted unexplained wealth order legislation; we’ve already looked at different bills for campaign finance reform. We’ve already implemented some of these in the House already. Amendments to the Supreme Court Act, to the Court of Appeal Act, the Public Contracts Commission. I could name them on and on. We have done a lot of work. Sometimes the work done by this government has been overlooked so far in the first six months. We are following the legal process to get these things into law but we are fully committed to them. Look at the Public Accounts Committee. That’s one of the first things that we did; increase the size of the committee, made sure that it has representation from different sectors, made sure that every single committee meeting is held in public.”
