National Fire Service Has New Station
The City of Belmopan now has a new fire station as a result of a partnership with the U.S. Southern Command Humanitarian Assistance Program. The new station was dedicated today and handed over to the National Fire Service of Belize. According to the U.S. Embassy, the state-of-the-art building, worth one point seven-million Belize dollar, will be the central location for emergency service responders. The fire station contains a garage, sleeping quarters, kitchen, training room, and office space. A backup generator and filling stations for water tanks are also provided. The handover is the culmination of three years of collaboration between the U.S. Southern Command, the Louisiana National Guard Corps, and the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management. This project is one in a series of U.S. Government investments over the last year that has contributed to the enhancement of Belize’s emergency response infrastructure and capacity to expand emergency services to over ninety thousand residents.
