P.S.U. Prez: Strike Continues

A few days ago, the unions led the news almost every night. And now it is day twenty-two and there is no sign of a resolution between the unions and the Government of Belize on the salary cut and increment freeze. The unions have been at an impasse with G.O.B. following a statement made by Prime Minister John Briceño – an offer which the unions are yet to respond to. News Five spoke with President Gerald Henry of the Public Service Union who says that its membership has given instructions so the strike continues.

On the Phone: Gerald Henry, President, P.S.U.

“The strike continues. We have done our survey and that survey has yielded that the public officers for the most part, I think it was some ninety-something percent, decided that we are going to continue with industrial action. And then we had about seventy-something percent who stated that those actions should be strike action.”

“I spoke with the Public Service Minister where he is saying that they are yet to get a response from the unions as to the proposals from G.O.B.  Have you guys written or responded to them any at all?”

On the Phone: Gerald Henry

“Well it wasn’t a proposal. It was more a dictatorial, a final word and take it or leave it sort of position that they took. We still do intend to respond to that. We are crafting our responses later on today and hopefully we could get that out by tomorrow.”
