Chicago Trio and friends hold museum benefit
A group of five musicians from Chicago is holding two benefit concerts in aid of the Ambergris Caye Museum. The first is tonight at the United State’s Ambassador Carolyn Curiel’s residence in Belize City and the second is at the British High Commission in Belmopan on Saturday. News Five was invited to a rehearsal today where the Chicago Trio, as they call themselves, Elliot Golub, Marlou Johnston and Lyon Leifer were warming up. Elliot Golub says they found out about the museum through friends in Chicago who used to live in Belize.

“The musicians here are all busy professional musicians but this is the kind of thing that we like to do. We like to go and play at benefits and China if we can. We’re going to China in May and we try to fit it in our other concerts, like in Turkey for the relief of the earthquake victims.
Through contacts with archeologists they found out about the small museum in Ambergris Caye and it’s what this whole program is about. We’re hoping to help that museum which is struggling along but it’s very nice; we visited it yesterday. But it’s very nice to keep the culture.”
Soprano Patrice Michaels Bedi and pianist William Dresden are also part of the program. The Belize City performance is invitation only, but tickets are still available for the Belmopan recital Saturday night.
