Teacher Charged for Threatening Messages against a Minister
Police have arrested and charged a teacher in the north for threatening messages against a government minister and their families. The teacher, identified as Rigoberto Rivera, was slapped with a charge of “use of threat” after he made the comments in a B.N.T.U. Corozal WhatsApp group. Here’s more from Commissioner Chester Williams.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“A teacher was detained in San Joaquin Village Corozal yesterday after a number of text messages were sent to us that he had shared on a blog with other teachers. In those posts he had sent, he was sending threats to Ministers and the family of ministers. And to some extent was trying to recruit other persons to join him in that cause. Actions such as those cannot be countenanced and as a department we are investigating. As a department we are investigating it and he should be charged for using threatening words and we are also looking at the possibility of bringing charges under the cyber crime act because it does have provision where a person would make threat against another person and we are looking at that to see how we go with the investigation.”
