Sixteen year old charged with shooting Cayo jeweler

A sixteen-year-old Belize City youth has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a San Ignacio jeweler last week. The youth has also been charged with dangerous harm, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Two men, Jermaine August of Belmopan and Amin August of Santa Elena, have also been charged with conspiracy. Witnesses told police a man entered Oscar Cano’s Shop on Wednesday afternoon and demanded jewelry. When Cano hesitated the assailant shot him in the neck then fired shots at several employees before running out of the shop. Cano underwent surgery at the Belmopan Hospital and is recovering from his injury.
