Doctors monitoring child hit by dump truck
In Belize City, the doctors for a five-year-old boy hit by a dump truck on Friday are keeping a close watch on his condition. Andyvan Andrews who wound up under the front portion of the truck after he ran across Jane Usher Boulevard, suffered severe damage to one arm, a bruised lung and a mangled hand. A team of several doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital spent five hours on Friday cleaning mud and debris from Andyvan’s arm which, according to one of the surgeons, has literally been stripped of all the skin and much of the muscle from the shoulder down. The prognosis is guarded since the doctors say their biggest concern at this point is possible infection of the exposed area. Police say they are still investigating the incident, but that several witnesses have indicated that the driver of the truck was unable to avoid hitting the child since he ran out into the street suddenly.
