Florida pathologist performs second autopsy on Zeke Nesbitt

The family of little Ezekiel Nesbitt who died in Punta Gorda earlier this month under mysterious circumstances has gotten the results of a second autopsy, performed at their request by a pathologist in Florida. Dr. Abdullah Fatteh from the Broward County, Florida coroner’s office told News Five today that he could not comment on the case since it is still under investigation. He did confirm, however, that his findings do differ from those of Police Pathologist Mario Estradabran and that he has sent the results to the Nesbitt family. Estradabran has indicated the cause of death to be “drowning” while the Amandala newspaper reported this week that Dr. Fatteh indicated that he believed Zeke died from “forced drowning”. Dr. Estradabran told News Five that he considers such a conclusion if, this is indeed what Dr. Fatteh concluded, “speculatory” in the absence of any witnesses to the child’s death or knowledge of the area in Punta Gorda where he died. Estradabran says medical examiners deal with three types of drowning: accidents, homicide and suicides. He says a finding of “death by drowning” does not rule out the possibility that someone else contributed to a death, but it is up to the police to gather the necessary evidence in such a case. He says it is difficult, if not impossible, to determine if the bruises on the body were made before death — such as in the case of a beating — or after — if the body knocked against the rocks. Zeke disappeared from in front of the Mangrove Inn Restaurant around seven thirty p.m. on the night of November sixteenth. His father Chris Nesbitt was inside ordering food and the child was outside catching crabs along the rocks on the shore. Fifteen minutes later when he could not be found, a search was launched. The body was discovered two hours later floating in the sea. It was extensively bruised. Felipe Cowo, who was found wandering intoxicated near the scene, has been charged with murdering the child and is in the Hattieville Prison awaiting trial. His knapsack was found at the scene. News Five was unable to reach Chris Nesbitt for comment on Dr. Fatteh’s findings. The police say they have yet to receive a copy of the second autopsy report.
