American Killed in Tuesdays’ Crash Identified

The victim of Tuesday afternoon’s fatal road traffic accident, involving a high-ranking police officer, has been identified as seventy-three-year-old American national Bertina Juran Cruce.  As was reported at the time, preliminary investigations indicate ACP Aaron Guzman was driving in the direction of Orange Walk on the Phillip Goldson Highway when his SUV and Cruce’s car collided. Police say that Cruce was driving in the opposite direction and was attempting to overtake another vehicle.  An investigation is currently ongoing.  We were able to confirm that blood samples were extracted from ACP Guzman and that he is cooperating with investigators.  According to the Commissioner of Police, Guzman was in Corozal town earlier that day on official police business.
