SATIIM Introduces a New Executive Director
The Sarstoon and Temash Institute for Indigenous Management has a new executive director. This follows the recent appointment of Froyla Tzalam to the post of Governor General. The board of directors for SATIIM, following an extraordinary meeting, has confirmed that Maya Ch’oc is the new head of the organization. Maya Ch’oc, the daughter of former Executive Director Greg Ch’oc, was the first program coordinator for SATIIM’s Women’s Program. As Tzalam’s successor, the board says she brings new energy and perspectives to SATIIM’s programs in defense of human rights and the environment, the promotion of sustainable community development, as well as the leadership of women and youth. With the implementation of the 2015 C.C.J. consent order on Maya land rights, Ch’oc’s understanding of the free, prior and informed consent process will be critical and leading SATIIM forward.
