Corozal Mayor Supports Investment in the Youth and Sports
Jose Mai worked on the paperwork, creating two documents on the structure and programme itself for the academy. To go along with that is a coach’s manual to guide the delivery of the twelve-week summer programme for the children. Mayor Rigoberto Vellos says that he is throwing his full support behind this investment in the youth and sports.
Rigoberto Vellos, Mayor, Corozal Town
“Everybody knows me because of bodybuilding, but I used to play football, first division, when I used to live in Belize City for some years. And for the love of the game, I still have it; the love of sports is still in me, will always be in me. And the support that we can give as leaders to our community and our young people – that love I have it personally. And I am sure that the three bodies – the Corozal Town Council, the Sports Council and the Corozal Football Association also have that love. And we want to share that love with our community through sports and what a better way to do it – to put it through our young people and our kids. So that passion is still there and that is what motivated us. Apart from that, we have been practically on lockdown for over a year and we are dying and hungry to be able to engage in sports. And we want to take that opportunity as we slowly, but surely go along our way opening our gates to many different things within our community.”
