Witness in murder trial shot 2 days before court
The ongoing murder trial at the Supreme Court of Brandon Tillett and James Escarpeta has run into a hitch and that is because one witness has been shot and the other developed amnesia. Sherlett Arnold, the chief witness in the murder of Kevin Parks, who was scheduled to take the witness stand on Wednesday, was shot in her rear on Monday night. Reports are that Sherlett Arnold was along with her sister, Clevelee Arnold, playing cards on the stairs of a house through Rowland’s Alley when a man wearing a T-shirt, black pants and a black cap pointed a gun at Dennis Belgrave who was in the crowd, and fired shots at him. When the crowd scattered, Sherlett was hit in her buttocks and Clevelee was shot on her right foot.
The second witness, twenty-four year old Sheena Barrow, took the witness stand on Monday and again today. She testified that she could not recall most of what she gave the police in a statement that was recorded in the presence of a Justice of the Peace. Crown Counsel, Trenia Young, who is representing the prosecution, has applied to the court that Barrow be treated as a hostile witness. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Branker-Taitt has said that she will have to decide whether or not Barrow should be cited for perjury. The case is being heard by Justice Adolph Lucas and Senior Counsel, Simeon Sampson is defending Escarpeta. Tillett is represented by Ernest Staine. Kevin Parks was gunned down at his residence on Euphrates Avenue around two on the afternoon of November thirteenth, 2006. His relative, Charles Moss, was also shot in the incident.
