Police investigate strange death of five-year old boy
But while the rights of children were being promoted today in Belize City, in Punta Gorda police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and death of a five year old boy on Tuesday night. At this time they are treating the case as a homicide and have detained a man for questioning. The child’s father, Edward Christopher Nesbitt told police he and his son Ezekiel went to the Mangrove Inn Restaurant on Front Street Tuesday night around seven thirty and while Nesbitt waited for their food, the little boy went outside to catch crabs a few yards away by the sea. Nesbitt says a few minutes later he went to check on the child but couldn’t find him. After a frantic search, the child was found around nine thirty floating in the sea not far from the restaurant. The body was badly bruised and was bleeding from the mouth. Reports from Punta Gorda are that a knapsack was found in the area and that the owner has been detained for questioning. At this time the police are waiting for the results of the post mortem.
