International Feature Film is Being Shot in Belize
The filming of a film with a Belizean and American cast is taking place in San Pedro. The director is Dale Stelly, a Belizean American from Los Angeles, who is excited about directing this picture in his native country and casting a spotlight on the Belize and La Isla Bonita. Eighty percent of the suspense thriller will be shot on Ambergris Caye and the Cayo District. Producer Damien Douglas was initially thinking of Jamaica, but was so impressed with what Belize offers, he says he could not imagine bringing this production to life anywhere else. The international crew landed on the island Sunday and News Five was able to get quick comment during filming today.
Dale Stelly, Director
“It’s a long time coming, the sea breeze, the whole island, we are going to photograph a very cinematic movie and I am just happy to have Horacio and Nigel Miguel on board.”
Damien Douglas, Producer
“The idea was originally gonna be on a different island and Dale talked me into it and said look Belize up. And I started looking and I said there can’t be a better place to go. Creatively I am very excited. I can’t wait to finish this movie and I expect it to be out in theatres by the end of this year, so let me say that now. I expect it to be out by the end of 2021. We do have a distributor attached. I am not going to tell you who it is because if we make a great movie, I might make that guy pay some more money to keep a hold of it.”
Jhoné Y. Lucas, Actress
“For my first movie to be an international feature film, I can’t even explain the excitement that I have. So my experience is that I really have been acting my whole life. I grew up in theatre, so TV and film is significantly different so it is all a learning experience, but I have been learning a lot of the technicalities, like we do multiple takes, different angles and it is not in chronological order like if it were a play. But it gives you more freedom so I like this. I like it a lot.”
According to Douglas, the cast includes people from the Stranger Things franchise, the Marvel franchise, and the All-Black cinema franchise.
