Andy Palacio featured in World Music CD
While the Pantasticks give festival goers in Cancun a taste of Belizean rhythm, musical ambassador for Punta Rock Andy Palacio is among the Caribbean artists featured on the CD from Putumayo World Music. Palacio’s recording of the song “Nabi” written by Garifuna composer Paul “Nabor” Santino, is included on the album “Caribe! Caribe!”. Artists such as La Perfecta from Curacao, Krosfyah of Barbados, Kali of Martinique and Osha from St. Thomas are also included. These “musical cousins” as Putumayo calls them share the legacy of a blend of African and European traditions. Andy Palacio told News Five the producers heard his music at a trade show and contacted Stone Tree Records to ask them about including one of his recordings. He says he is excited that Belize is, in his words, “finally in the mix with the rest of the Caribbean.” Here’s a taste of Nabi:

Nabi was first featured in Palacio’s album “Keimoun” produced by Stone Tree Records in 1995. Although Caribe! Caribe! is not available on the local market, you can order the CD through the Putumayo site on the World Wide Web. The address is Putumayo.com. The Putumayo clothing and handicraft stores were opened in 1975 in Manhattan, New York and the owner began making tapes of contemporary folk music for the stores in 1991. Putumayo World Music became a separate company five years later and now produces several albums a year featuring musical artists from all over the world.
